Pumpkin Cheesecake?
This weekend I wanted to try out my Pumpkin and Vanilla Pie fragrance oil. It smelled scrumptious out of the bottle and I thought this would look great as a cake, and it meant I could use my brand new silicone cake mould. Yay!
The plan: I was going to use the faux funnel pour technique (which I had never tried), with a fragrance oil (which I had never soaped with), and pipe around the top edge (which... You guessed it.... I have never attempted). Recipe for disaster? We were to find out.
The cake: So I prepared my soap batter (no dramas there) and split it into two jugs (leaving a small portion in the main jug for the piping). I fragranced one jug with my pumpkin vanilla (a discolouring fragrance), and left the others unscented. I proceeded with the funnel pour. I really must say that I LOVE this technique :-). It was quite easy to achieve and I cannot wait to give it another crack with another, more colourful design. I did have one issue though, and that was my batch was not big enough. It was going to be a shallow cake (or cheesecake even).
The Piping: This didn't happen! I was to scared to try it. What if I screwed up the whole batch? I'd never piped soap before, maybe I should practice before trying to apply it to a whole soap cake?
I decided to play it safe and just pour it as a thin creamy layer and just texture the top slightly. Yes I was happy with that idea. And I was happy with the outcome too.
Time to Unmuld: Now I am the most impatient person I know (probably not good to have an obsession with soap then), and I unmoulded this baby too early. It was too soft. It crumbled a little. I "lost" half of it a it crumbled and fell apart :-( I saved 4 pieces. These 4 pieces I am happy with. They aren't very tidy looking, but they look like baked cheesecake. And smells oh so yummy :-). The discolouring fragrance is starting to darken and the stripes from the faux funnel pour look pretty good for my first attempt.
So what of the pieces that fell to apart? I rolled them into little soap balls to decorate my next batch :-) and they look really scrummy sitting in my spare room waiting to be used.
I am thinking my next batch will be Black Raspberry and Vanilla, but knowing me I will probably change my mind at the last minute.
